As an added bonus, cellulose insulation has excellent thermal and acoustic properties. That means it keeps your home warm and quiet from outside noise.

Sheep’s Wool Insulation

Believe it or not, fluffy sheep’s wool makes for fantastic insulation! Think about it. Sheep are well equipped to live in cold climates thanks to their luscious, protective fleece. We can now leverage that same natural insulation power in our homes.

Sheep’s wool is a natural, renewable, and biodegradable material. It’s a gift from nature that keeps on giving. It also regulates moisture to prevent condensation and mold growth. The outer layer of wool fibers resists absorbing water, while the inner layer soaks it up. This moisture-control capacity helps stabilize indoor humidity.

An added perk is that sheep’s wool is naturally fire-resistant. No chemical flame retardants required! Supporting small sheep farmers by choosing wool insulation keeps local agriculture thriving. Silica is the most common base material for aerogel insulation products. Silica refers to silicon dioxide, better known as quartz or sand. Through an intricate process of extracting liquid from the gel without collapsing the solid structure, a porous matrix with extremely low density is created.

The resulting R-value per inch clocks in at R-10.3. Aerogel insulation provides up to 10X better thermal resistance than other options of the same thickness! However, the intricate production process also carries a much higher price tag. One that far surpasses conventional insulation.
